COMPARATIVE ASSESSMENT OF ADAPTABILITY AND PRODUCTIVITY OF SPRING SOFT WHEAT VARIETIES OF DIFFERENT RIPENESS GROUPS IN THE SOUTHERN FOREST-STEPPE OF WESTERN SIBERIA

Abstract:
In 2020–2022, a comparative evaluation of 22 spring soft wheat varieties was conducted at the Seed Production Department of the Omsk Agrarian Scientific Center, southern forest-steppe of Western Siberia. The study examined varieties from three maturity groups of diverse ecological and geographical origins following two preceding crops: black fallow and cereals. The varieties were assessed for field germination, plant survival, grain yield, and resistance to foliar pathogens. The study established the dependence of field germination and plant survival on the genotypic characteristics of the varieties and environmental stress factors. Highly adaptive and productive spring soft wheat varieties were identified: Pamyati Suslyakova, Omskaya Zhemchuzhina, Sigma 5, Sigma, Omskaya Krepost, Omskaya 44, and line DG 48-18. They are recommended for both breeding programs and cultivation in the region.
