DIAGNOSIS OF IDIOPATHIC CYSTITIS DURING REMISSION IN DOMESTIC CATS
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
Idiopathic cystitis is one of the common forms of bladder disease in cats. Currently developed and proposed methods of treatment and prevention do not always relieve cats from relapses. Therefore, the diagnosis of feline idiopathic cystitis during remission remains an urgent problem. The authors of the work set a goal - to improve the diagnosis of idiopathic cystitis in domestic cats during the period of remission. For two years, 15 cats diagnosed with idiopathic cystitis (FIC) and 15 apparently healthy cats were observed. Using a complex of routine and modern methods, the authors obtained new information about idiopathic cystitis in cats. In particular, it has been established that in cats during the period of remission of idiopathic cystitis, changes in the surface layer of the mucous membrane are observed in the bladder: swelling, areas with follicular growths, petechial hemorrhages. At the tissue level, changes also affect the lamina propria, in which vascular hyperemia is observed. During the period of remission in cats, cystomanometric indicators change - the pressure in the bladder can increase to 62±16 mmHg. Art., while the maximum filling volume reaches an average value of 66±18 ml. The article describes a method for diagnosing interstitial cystitis in cats during remission, based on urodynamics and microscopy of urine sediment. The proposed method made it possible to identify hidden idiopathic cystitis in apparently healthy cats in 13% of cases, and in cats in remission - in 73%. The material presented in the article may be useful to practicing veterinary specialists when making a diagnosis and monitoring the progress of treatment in cats with idiopathic cystitis.
