Abstract:
The article presents the results of a study on 89 genotypes of small-seeded lentils of various ecological and geographical origins. The scientific research was conducted during 2023-2024 in the breeding fields of LLP “A.I. Barayev Research and Production Center for Grain Farming” Kazakhstan, under years with contrasting moisture and temperature conditions. Data collection was carried out according to the methodological guidelines of VIR and the A.I. Barayev RPCGF. Observations focused on the response of small-seeded lentil groups to both heat stress and excessive moisture. The response to drought in 2023 (HTC +0.10) was manifested in a reduction in stem length, yield, and productivity traits, whereas in 2024 (HTC +1.53), these indicators were several times higher. This suggests that most of the tested samples belong to the extensive cultivation type. Disease development was found to be lower in the drier year compared to the wetter one. As a result of the study, five of the most adapted, plastic, high-yielding, and disease-resistant samples were identified (K-894, L8Z32AR-P, PR-86-385, FLIP 95-14L, Estonian). The presented data make it possible to assess the potential of these genotypes for further use in breeding programs and for introduction into agricultural production in corresponding climatic zones.
