THE EFFECT OF VARIOUS ODORANTS ON THE MOTOR ACTIVITY IN LABORATORY RATS

Abstract:
The use of odorous substances is possible not only as aromatherapy and odorants in rooms, but also as means that affect the behavior of animals and humans. Therefore, the use of odorous substances must be justified and have a specific purpose of exposure. The aim of this research is to study the effects of a number of flavors "Vanilla", "Mint" and "Citrus" on the motor activity of laboratory rats in the "Open field" test. An analysis of the animal behavior without exposure and with exposure to various flavors was carried out. The object of the study was 40 laboratory rats (males). The following behavioral reactions were evaluated according to the degree of manifestation: latent period, horizontal motor activity, vertical motor activity, exploratory activity, grooming. As a result, it was revealed that different odorants cause different motor activity in animals, which allows us to obtain additional information about the prognostic resistance of animals to stress. When analyzing the total amount of motor activity, the following was found: the smallest changes in motor activity were observed in the experimental group with the use of Vanilla flavor (a decrease in motor activity by 12.1%), the average values of the three indicators belong to Citrus flavor (an increase in motor activity by 9.9%) and the greatest motor activity was observed in the group with Mint flavor (increased motor activity by 10.1%). The predominant motor activity was the horizontal movement of the animal, aimed at exploring the field area. The vertical motor activity index was more pronounced than in the other groups. As a result, it can be concluded that the Mint flavor has a tonic effect, increases the level of attention, but not anxiety.
